On Wednesday August 10 The Guardian Australia published more than 2,000 leaked incident reports from Australia’s detention centre on Nauru. The reports—2,116 in number, of which more than half involve children—detail a catalogue of assaults, sexual abuse, self-harm attempts, child abuse and effects stemming from inherently toxic living conditions.

In response, refugee advocates from a coalition of grassroots organisations (incl. Love Makes a Way, Mums4Refugees, Grandmothers Against Detention of Refugee Children, ChilOut and People Just Like Us) are planning to hold actions all over Australia. These actions will be peaceful and legal. They will also be brief, about 30 mins unless otherwise stated, so you can get to where you need to go for the day afterwards.

At each action we will post large, coloured paper dolls to draw attention to and as a symbol of each person who has suffered from abuse and trauma as detailed in the recently leaked Nauru reports. Each paper doll will be accompanied by a note explaining the symbol and the reason we are taking action. Help us out by printing your own paper doll on coloured A3 paper and bringing it to stick up on the day.

We want to send a message to the Government and Opposition that the abuse, assault and conditions detailed in the Nauru reports must end, and that they must take responsibility for their poor decisions and the culture of secrecy that has been created around immigration detention.

Most of all, we want to see Australia’s offshore detention camps shut down immediately.

This is a fantastic initiative !! I have been trying to tell RAC to do something like this. They did not like my suggestion. Glad they are prepared to help on this. People Just Like Us will most probably help in a number of places s much as we can. Joyce is contacting Matt.
